Tungsten carbide is known as “king of metal”, which is mixed by tungsten carbide powder and cobalt powder. The portion of them is around 99%, and with a little bit other components. The hardness of tungsten carbide is very high, which can reach to 89~95HRA. The hardness is uniformity on inside and outside. So tungsten carbide is excellent in wear-resistance, but it’s very fragile. Besides, tungsten carbide has good corrosion-resistance and hot-resistance, it can keep the high hardness under 500 and 1000°C.
Grade YG15: Usually used to make all kinds of precision dies, like punch dies and heading dies, which are used to press copper and aluminium.
YG20: Usually used to make various dies which need to bear great impact.

How to distinguish different grade?
Cobalt is magnetic, but tungsten carbide (WC) crystals and cubic carbide crystals (TiC, TaC, NbC, VC, etc.) are non-magnetic. Therefore, if the magnetic saturation value of cobalt in a grade (such as YG15) is measured and compared with the corresponding value of a sample containing pure cobalt, the metal level of the cobalt bonding phase can be obtained. This is because the elements that form tungsten carbide with cobalt affect the magnetic saturation value, so any changes in the composition of the ideal bonding phase can be measured. This experiment is used to determine any deviation from the optimal carbon content, as carbon plays a major role in composition control:
A low magnetic saturation value indicates the presence of low carbon content and/or carbide η phase.
A high magnetic saturation value indicates the presence of free carbon or graphite phases.
