Product Description

The Tungsten Carbide Flow Cage is a critical internal component for downhole gas lift or fixed valves. Designed as a rugged, cylindrical sleeve with precision-engineered perforations, it functions as a “heavy-duty armor” or a “protective filter” for the valve’s delicate internal core. It integrates three essential functions: protection, filtration, and throttling.

The specific design of the cage (hole patterns) serves two primary purposes:

  • Filtration & Anti-Clogging: It allows the seamless entry of production fluids (oil, gas, and water) while effectively blocking large solid particulates—such as formation sand, proppants, scale, and metal debris. This prevents direct impact or clogging of the high-precision valve ball and seat, ensuring long-term operational integrity.
  • Throttling & Flow Stabilization: By precisely calculating the Total Flow Area (TFA) of the holes, the cage provides a controlled throttling effect. This stabilizes flow pressure and mitigates “valve flutter” caused by pressure fluctuations, significantly extending the service life of the valve.

Key Features and Benefits

1. Protection of Core Valve Components
As its primary mission, the cage prevents solid impurities from causing washout (cutting) on the valve seat or pitting corrosion on the valve ball. By mitigating sealing failures, it significantly reduces the probability of valve malfunction.

2. Extended Pump Inspection & Intervention Cycles
By safeguarding the valve’s integrity, it minimizes well interventions and workover operations caused by valve failure. This leads to higher production uptime and a substantial reduction in overall lifting costs.

3. Reliability in Harsh Environments
Engineered specifically for challenging conditions—including high-sand production, fractured wells, heavy oil, and scaling environments—it is a critical component for ensuring the stable operation of artificial lift systems (such as Gas Lift).

4. Sustained Production Stability
The cage assists in maintaining a balanced relationship between bottom-hole pressure and production rates. By stabilizing the flow, it prevents erratic fluctuations and ensures consistent output.

5. Exceptional Hardness (HRA 90+)
With a hardness second only to diamond, the tungsten carbide material effectively resists the high-velocity impact and abrasive wear from geological gravel and proppants.

6. Superior Wear Resistance
In fluids containing high-speed solid particles (sand, debris, etc.), its service life far exceeds that of conventional high-strength steel, ensuring long-term durability in abrasive flow.

7. High Compressive Strength
The robust structural integrity allows the component to withstand the extreme hydrostatic and differential pressures typical of deep-well environments.

8. Enhanced Corrosion Resistance
Chemically formulated to resist the corrosive effects of downhole fluids, including brine, CO₂, H₂S, and other aggressive media found in associated gas and oil.

Typical Applications

1. Gas Lift Operations
Installed as a protective shield for gas lift valves, the cage ensures consistent valve core performance. It is specifically designed to withstand the rigors of high-pressure gas injection and the turbulent flow of complex produced fluids during frequent cycling.

2. Rod & Rodless Pumping Systems
Mounted on the standing valve (bottom valve) or the primary intake of the pump, the cage acts as a critical sand barrier. It prevents particulates from entering the pump barrel, thereby eliminating the risk of pump sticking (jamming) and reducing abrasive wear on the plunger and barrel.

3. Water & Gas Injection Wells
Integrated into injection valves to safeguard the system against contaminants. By filtering out impurities from the injection stream, the cage prevents valve clogging and protects the near-wellbore formation from plugging, ensuring optimal injectivity.
